FCHS Band Newsletter
The Tuesday night Band Boosters meeting was well attended and it was so good to see so many band parents involved and excited about the band program. So much is going on and we will try to recap the major events for you here.
Pancake Breakfast
A huge thank you goes out to all the parents and students who helped to make this event a huge success. Community support from banks and grocery stores helped us to clear a profit of about $3,000.00 on this event that will be designated for the London Parade trip to help offset the fees. A special thank you to Dan Houghton who lost a lot of sleep over organizing this event. We do have a few bags of coffee left to sell that were left over. Contact Dan if you would like to buy some at danhoughton@bellsouth.net.
Miss Pride
The pageant was a huge success this year due to the organizational skills and dedication of Sandy Mandall. Rich Johnson and his son Jeff did the lights and sound panel and gave their entire week towards getting Sam's Auditorium in good shape for the pageant. Valerie, Richard, and Lacy Gray did a fantastic job on the ticket and program sales. Benita Moore and her crew fed the judges and workers on Friday night and all day Saturday and did a great job. David McBride did the digital photos of the contestants for the plaques, Bronda and Pam Wetteroth manned the dressing rooms, Yolanda Hooten was in charge of ad sales, Cathy Yarian helped with rehearsals, and Susan Nash handled the layout of the program. Greta Carter- last year's pageant director - lent her help and experience for the week. We had Ross Wetherald,
Eris Nash, Jordan Sommers and Seth Rogers as escorts- poor guys had to wear a tux all night and escort lovely ladies! And Daniel Boggs overcame his shyness (!@#$%^&) to get up on the stage for the dance number with last year's queen.
Many other parents- too many to list- dedicated their time and efforts to make Miss Pride 2004 a huge success and a thank you goes out to them all. We made over $14,000.00 for the band general account on this event. Way to go Tigers!
8th grade night at FCHS
All upcoming freshmen are invited to the school on March 15 to see the school and go through orientation. The Band Boosters will have an information table set up to welcome these new students and hand out information on the band program. If you would like to help with this please contact Toni Padgett at tmpadgett@msn.com
8th Grade Band Night
On Monday March 22 Fayette Middle School and Whitewater Middle School are being invited to attend the band orientation night at 7:00. This is where we welcome incoming freshmen to the band program- answer questions and concerns and help the parents and students get over some of the confusion and fright of joining High School band. We would like to have a large group of informed Boosters in their Boosters shirts to help field questions, hand out the band packets and help these new folks feel welcome. If you would like to help on this please contact Katy Stevens at katysaid1@aol.com.
Winter Guard
The Guard is competing at Sandy Creek High School this Saturday at about 7:50 PM. Come cheer the ladies on and let them know we appreciate their hard
work!

McAlisters
McAlisters on highway 314 in Fayetteville has scheduled another FCHS night for Friday, March 19 from 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM. Last month we had a lot of band families there and collected $145.00. McAlisters will give the band 10% of the sales for the evening- so please come eat with us, encourage your friends and neighbors to come as well. The proceeds from this event go to the London fund.
WSB Fundraiser
We are still looking for folks to come and help with the flyers we will be distributing on cars for WSB on race day Sunday March 14. Parents and/or students can help with this event. If you can help contact Roberta Haren at robertaharen@hotmail.com.
Kroger Donation
The Band Boosters approached Krogers through one of our band parents - Joe Scarborough - to make a donation to provide t-shirts and caps for our students and parents to wear as we conduct London Parade fundraisers in the Fayetteville area. Krogers footed the entire bill for 350 caps and shirts and presented the Boosters with a check for over $2,700.00! Thank you Krogers!
Outback Dinner Concert
We are in the final stages of arranging the dinner concert for April 20th. Outback Steakhouse has agreed again to provide the meal- it was
fantastic last year. The dinner concert will be held in the Rainbow Room at New Hope church. Watch for details on the menu and tickets for this event.
Jazz Festival
Bill and Deborah Bauchat with the help of Beverly Black have done an incredible job organizing the 2nd Annual Lafayette Jazz Festival to be held at the Villages Amphitheater on April 24. All the planning and arrangements have been done - now all we need is a big audience! Two tickets have been sent home with each student to sell and the deadline on this first presale of tickets is March 19. We ask that band families sell as many tickets as they can at the presale price of $5.00 each so we can arrange for the food items needed. The price at the gate on the day of the festival will be $7.00. Mr. Beard has more tickets in his office if you need them.
This event will be fun filled day of great music and food for all who attend. So far we have the Clayton State University Big Band, Winder HS Jazz Band, Clayton State Jazz Combo, Georgia State Jazz Band, Luella HS Jazz Band, Jonesboro HS Jazz Band, FCHS Jazz Band and Georgia Air National Guard Jazz Band. We have several more bands that have applied to perform but have not yet made a firm commitment.
We need band families to do the presale tickets, distribute flyers in town, and to volunteer to be workers in various areas the day of the festival. The committee is also asking for tables and umbrellas to be lent
for the day of the event to provide shaded tables for eating. If you are able to help contact Bev Black at
black1630@bellsouth.net.
London Parade Festival
The deadline for contracts to be signed, notarized, and turned in to the Boosters is March 30. Everyone needs to be getting passports applied for as well. The next payment of $300.00 per person will be due on April 16.
Auditions
