Meeting MinutesJanuary Minutes | Posted at 22:36 o 04 Feb 2005 FCHS BAND BOOSTER General Meeting Minutes January 11, 2005 Meeting called to order by President at 7:00 pm. Meeting agenda distributed. Secretary - Review on web page Treasurer's Report - Posted on board in band room. Director's Report - Mr. Beard * All-State Results - 21 students selected, second in the state. * District Honor Band will be held Feb. 11th & 12th * GMEA Wind Ensemble Jan. 27th in Savannah. Our band is one of three bands selected in the state and Fayette Middle is one of 3 Middle Schools in the state. This will be an overnight trip and the cost is $65 per student. They will need help from the Boosters to make this trip possible. * Wind Ensemble invited to perform on January 27th. * Pre-festival concert will be held 2/17th at Sandy Creek. 12 bands will participate. 2 - 3 judges will be needed. Times will be announced later. Our Wind Ensemble will perform last around 8:30 p.m. Color Guard/Winter Guard - Sharon Youngblood * Winter guard first 1 - 1.5 minutes of their show is completed. Theme: Coming Home to Fayetteville. Festival - March 10th - 12th. * 1st competition 1/27th in Douglasville. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support them. Full schedule will be posted on the web. George announced that the web site is up and running and has a lot of good information on it. Encouraged everyone to visit. Miss Pride - Applications went out to public schools last week. Still need workers. Need 6 individuals per pageant and there are 5 pageants. Help is also needed to collect tickets, hospitality and dressing room. Clean up crew will need to be finished by 11 am. Email Sandy or Katy if you would like to volunteer. Two men are needed on Sunday 2/13th to set up stairs for 15 min. around 2 pm. Yolanda Hooten is the Ad sales chair. Email address: misspride2005@earthlink.net. George encouraged members to help with Miss Pride, as it is the largest fundraiser for the Boosters. Lafayette Marching Classic - Total profit for 2004 Classic was $7900.28. We need to get started as soon as possible forming the committee for Lafayette Classic 2005. The event will be held on October 29th at Tiger Stadium. Regina Conner is the chairperson for this event. Pancake Breakfast - Mr. McCord is the chair this year. Dan and Pat McNally will work on the committee. Golf Tournament - Jeff Kee & Tony Buck are the chairpersons. Course has been secured more details in the near future. The date and location is May 13, 2005 at the Rivers Edge Golf Course. Spring Music Festival - Formally called the "Jazz Festival" will be chaired by Robin Sommers. Tamara Vorwald reminded all chairs to remember to use the FCHS Band Boosters advertising inserts in all programs. FUNDRAISERS - Diane Clark Dinner Concert - Outback will again cater this event. To be held on April 19th, location has not yet been secured. Mr. Beard stated he will check with New Hope. Parents are asked to provide beverages. Diane asked for suggestions for new fundraisers to be applied to student accounts. Ad Campaign - Tamara Vorwald Campaign will begin in April and everyone is needed to make this the huge success it can be. Birdies for Charity - George Sponsored by Bellsouth. The program is simple and the profit can be substantial. Ask family, friends, etc. to guess how many birdies will be made @ the Bellsouth Classic then make a pledge per birdie. Last yr. 1501 birdies were made. A common pledge is one penny (.01). The individual completes the pledge card that is turned into Bellsouth. Bellsouth will then send a bill to the individual. A check is mailed to the organization from Bellsouth. Last yr. $150 was raised with very little participation. George volunteered to chair this fundraiser. He stated it is a very easy fundraiser. Hi Fi Buys - New coordinators are needed! This is a good fundraiser for individual student accounts and the general fund. It is also a lot of fun. There are two stands. The coord. Arrives early to set everything up, schedule volunteers and close-up. 5-6 hrs. It will take 3-4 teams of 2 to work 6 or 7 shows. Concert season is March thru October with concert almost weekly. All volunteers must attend mandatory training. Coord. Receive 2 credits. Amphitheater - Tina Decotis $500 is donated to the general fund for setting up chairs for 5 concerts, rain or shine. It takes approximately 1 - 11/2 hrs. w/10 individuals. Each receives a volunteer credit. Students can help. We are given first choice because we have done it for several years but there are several other schools interested in the fundraiser if we don't do it. A chairperson is needed to coordinate the volunteers for this fundraiser. LONDON TRIP - Mary Tuck Great Trip, everyone had a great time. The students enjoyed Bath and Westminster Abbey. It was a wonderful experience. Digital video of parade was requested by 11Alive for "Class Notes". Boosters presented Mary with flowers and a card. A heartfelt THANKS!!! To Cass and everyone else who made this trip a huge success. Thanks to Mr. Beard for his leadership and making it all happen - standing ovation. NEW BUSINESS Awards Banquet - Toni Padgett and Jacqueline Sommers are co-chairs. Program will be held 4/28th, location to be announced. 8th Grade Orientation - Date has not been confirmed. Mr. Beard will work on date by next meeting. Band Fees & Credits - Executive Board voted to increase fees and restructure credits. Details will be presented at February general meeting. All members are encouraged to email Katy with any concerns, suggestions, questions, and etc. so your voice can be heard. General comments: Katy - Ask anyone with London picture to turn them in to be placed on a CD. The cost will be minimum. DVD of London Parade is available, cost $30 w/o discount. Penny - 129 uniforms sent to London need to be cleaned, all were returned with one slightly damaged. Dan thanked Penny for all her help with the uniforms and preparing them for London trip. Also thank you extended to Mrs. Beard who was responsible for uniforms in London. Mrs. Rhoden - Yearbook pictures will be taken tomorrow. Wind Ensemble must be in full dress uniform. Concerto competition will be held 3/14th, Sams Auditorium. 25 students participating and each will have 10 minutes to play before 3 college judges. Each participate will get a personal recording. Open discussion regarding Bands of America. Is it worth all the effort and time? Mr. Beard responded he felt it was worth it because it helps improve student performance. Though he hasn't made the final decision about next year. However he is hesitant not to do it because the kids enjoy it. Sandy encourages members to check with their employer many corporations consider school bands as charitable donations. The money must go to the general fund, not to individual students. Voting for new officers chaired by Katy. 65 voting member present. The two presidential candidates spoke for 1 minute each. All candidates were introduced. The President opened the floor for nominations, no responses. Motion made and second that nominations be closed, no opposers. Duncan made a motion to accept slate and proceed with vote, motion second. Ballots were distributed. Katy, Duncan and Randy counted the votes. While the counting was being done George re-capped his presidency. His main goal was to improve communication, get new uniforms, participate in more national competitions, and increase fundraisers and parent participation. With all being said and done he feels a lot has been accomplished during his tenure and expects greater things from the incoming leadership. George also took to opportunity to thank everyone who has worked with and supported him throughout his presidency. He said it has been a GREAT experience. Katy announced the winners. New Executive Board members are now listed on the website at www.fchsband.org. New board members congratulated and welcomed. Outgoing board members danced! Meeting adjourned.
